It’s not unusual for young people to “feel down” occasionally, adolescence is an unsettling time and many changes happen during this time. Unrealistic academic, social, or family expectations can create a strong sense of rejection and may lead to a deep disappointment; when things go wrong, teens often overreact. If your teens or child’s moods starts to disrupt their ability to function on their day-to-day activities, it may indicate a more emotional or physical disorder that needs attention. Depression is a treatable, yet, serious and very common mental illness that negatively affects how you feel, think, and act. Depression can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems, it can lead to your Childs’ or teens’ lack of ability to function at school or at every day activities.
Symptoms of Adolescent Depression:
Adolescents do not always understand their feelings, therefore they may not be aware of their symptoms and that it may be depression, so they may not seek help. Teens may experiment with alcohol and drugs or even become sexually active to avoid feelings of depression. Depression is very serious and left untreated can become life threatening.
