Having too much on your plate can cause stress for you and your family and can leave you with no time for yourself. Having too much on your plate implies not only a lot to do, but also a sense of being overwhelmed. There are many things you can do to help alleviate some of the stress you are feeling.
Create a Plan of attack – Create a to-do list and get all of your appointments in a schedule. Fit the items on your to-do list into the time that isn’t booked by an appointment. When you have a plan of attack and know when things will get done, they won’t hang over your head causing you stress. This frees up your brain power to actually complete the tasks instead of thinking about everything else you have to do.
Learn to Say No! – As much as we want to have superpowers and have the ability to do everything, that isn’t reality. I don’t like letting people down (or having the perception that I have let someone down), however sometimes we have to say no to things and people. Think about it from a different perspective, by saying no now you are giving people time to find someone else who can give a task the proper focus to get it done well.
Get some sleep – Wait, what?!? That may seem counterproductive, but sleep has a big impact on our energy and mental capacity. Sleep is when our bodies heel themselves, we file away our thoughts and clear our brain of toxins. Without sufficient sleep we just don’t function as well and can really end up wasting more time with brain fog, and low energy.
Make time for Self-Care – Taking a break and taking care of yourself is essential to make sure you are able to get things done. Without a break, working nonstop to get everything done will likely lead to burnout. If you burn yourself out, you won’t be able to do anything. Giving yourself a break and allow yourself to recharge, by taking a little time for self-care, you will end saving yourself time in the long run.
Start Doing – Stop thinking and stressing and start doing. Once you have your plan in place, start checking things off of your to-do list. You will be amazed how quickly you move along once you get going and stop stressing.
All it takes is a good solid plan and a clear head to get yourself moving in the right direction. There are so many distractions, don’t let yourself get derailed.
