“Family” is defined by the modern family therapist as anyone who plays a long-term supportive role in child/teens life, which may not mean blood relations or family members in the same household. The goal of family therapy typically is to seek help to reduce distress and conflict by improving the systems of interactions between family members. At CPC we look at this from a different angle than a typical adult or family specific therapist might. We made a clinical decision to focus our practice on children and teens, in doing this we look at situations from a child’s perspective and how that impacts the family dynamic overall.
We don’t take the position that family therapy needs to have everyone in the same room at the same time to be able to work as a family unit. We work in an organic way that will develop over time with your individual family. We know how to speak to your child/teen on their level to understand what they are feeling and what their perspective is. We bring our children to a pediatrician for a reason, they specialize in knowing and understanding children, it is the same when it comes to therapy and counseling, you want to find a therapist who specializes in working with children and teens. At CPC we are best equipped to work with your child because of our practices focus and specialized training. Additionally, our continued education and training keep us abreast of the latest trends and up to the minute skills to specialize in pediatric centered counseling.
During family therapy, we focus on working with your child/teen and we will strategically and naturally bring in the rest of the family where appropriate. We will meet with each person who has a direct impact on your child’s family dynamic. We support everyone’s effort who wants to help the child/teen feel better. We want to ensure that everyone is involved as they need to be in providing the best atmosphere for your child’s/families’ mental well-being. We want to ensure that everyone understands how they impact each other and what part they play in helping the dynamics of the family. We help you establish healthy boundaries and learn to work and communicate together effectively.
At CPC, we focus on the mental health of your children/teens and know that the entire family is a big factor in driving that. We focus on different ways to get through to your child/teen and ensure that we are helping all of you get on the path to better mental health and learn ways to effectively communicate and function as a healthy family unit.
“I learned about the strength you can get from a close family life. I learned to keep going, even in bad times. I learned not to despair, even when my world was falling apart. I learned that there are no free lunches. And I learned the value of hard work.”
