Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) has been utilized since the 1970s in mental health arenas. SFBT is, as the name indicates, focused on finding a solution to a problem rather than dwelling on the problem itself.

However you came to find yourself at therapy, there was a moment in your life in which you realized you may have a problem that you needed to find a solution for. The goal of Solution Focused Brief Therapy is for the counselor who is working with you to be able to help you find that solution. With SFBT, the counselor leads the client to developing your own vision of what a solution could be.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy helps the average person with a problem to solve to think about how it can be done. Far too often, people tend to dwell on the issue at hand but then to simply ignore it or hope it goes away. Solution Focused Brief Therapy allows the client to broaden their thinking and find the solution that has been right in front of them.

Therapy is not meant to be a permanent structure in one’s life. It may be a long-term necessity for some, and only a few weeks for others. No matter the end date, the end result will be the same. You will feel happier, healthier, and ready to take on more challenges as they come your way.
